so brook says we are all guests, then somebody who never posts anymore jumps on somebody that does.... hmmmmmmm,,, you should be ashamed. Rick is one of my favorite contributers here, and though i do not agree with him politically, i find where everyone thinks alike nobody thinks very much and things get dull fast. a while back personal attacks got out of hand here and the blog suffered for it, do we really want to start that all again?

Really, it was about the catholic fabric art, guys...

Om shanti, one & all - just want to state for the record my belief that I've got the same right to indulge my sense of humor as Bill or Rick or anybody else, no more, no LESS, and I think that goes for everybody too, whether they post once a day or once a fucking year. (See argument: "Quality vs. Quantity.") And to my eyes, Yamo calling Phil "pussy face fuck" over & over is a lot more of a personal attack than anything I'll ever do here, & if that's tolerated, & I'm not, what up with that? That's a bunch of asshole bullshit, that's what.

And I haven't been ashamed of myself since 1982.

As a very rare poster, I feel I must defend my breed. You (Elizabeth) have every right to post your opinion, as do we all. That's one of the things that I thought was unique about Johnson City - Rednecks and Fags, Punks and Jocks, all sharing a pitcher of beer. I do feel, however, that "He was an asshole, why can't I be an asshole" is not a valid justification for a personal attack.

I posted what I did, to Phil, in good faith response to his appy polly logy. I did not call him a "pussy face fuck." I said that he partook in an act of "pussyfuck cowardice." An event that I still adhere to, even though I actually think Phil was (and is), for the most part, an OK guy.

Let's get real. If it was truly about the Catholic fabric art, isn't there a place you can do that without taking a jab at the blog's resident Right Wing Pigeon? (No offense, Rick - we still share a love of Cooper, Motorhead and Mojo Nixon)

I realize that I am merely a guest on this blog (and as said before, a rare poster) but in all, if OM shanti shanti shanti is truly the way that you would greet us, the "Catholic fabric art" would never have been posted.

peace in body, speech, and mind,

james

Actually, because philosophers are driven to explicate themselves ad nauseum, because toodle-oo is way too easy, and because I can never leave a good hornet's nest unwhacked:

It was about "catholic fabric art" only in the sense of modifying a famous poster from another era, as many others have done. I found it impish and in keeping. I didn't expect everyone to; I expected some would and some wouldn't. I don't find every post here witty or to my taste, but so what? That's life.

I would agree in principle with James that "he's an asshole, so I can be one too" is poor justification for being an asshole. The problem with it is, by whose yardstick is asshole calibrated? I think James is an ass (let's suppose), James thinks I'm an ass, where does this get us? It seems to me that part of the blog's splendor is its boisterous and sometimes inappropriate nature. To keep it thus we all have to be prepared to put up with a little jostling now and then. Are we the worse for it? It's like going out on the town, back in the day: you might run into some rude fuckers, you might get your toes stepped on, your drink spilled, whatever, but can you still have fun? Just your own attitude determines whether you can or not. This has been almost as much fun as a beer soaked session at the old Quarterback's. And James, the god/shit postscript was hilarious.
