PBS Kids' Show Host Fired for Video

NEW YORK

The PBS Kids Sprout network has fired the host of "The Good Night Show" after learning she had appeared in videos called "Technical Virgin."

The host, Melanie Martinez, had alerted network officials about one of the videos late last week and she was immediately taken off the air.

"PBS Kids Sprout has determined that the dialogue in this video is inappropriate for her role as a preschool program host and may undermine her character's credibility with our audience," said Sandy Wax, network president.

Airing for three hours each evening, "The Good Night Show" airs soothing stories and cartoons designed to get an audience of 2-to-5- year-olds ready for bed. Each night, Martinez guides a puppet character into dreamland. Martinez is a stage actress and mother of a toddler.

In the two "Technical Virgin" videos _ made before she landed the children's show job _ she spoofs PSAs about how young women can keep their virginity.

PBS Kids Sprout airs children's programming 24 hours a day and is seen in about 20 million of the nation's 110 million television homes. "The Good Night Show" has been temporarily replaced by cartoons while a search is conducted for a new host.

-Damn, and they were really on to something. I thought it was funny too.

"Melanie was played by Melanie Martinez, a 1994 graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts. Star, a star, was also with Melanie on The Good Night Show. Recently, Melanie informed the network executives that a 30-second short film she starred in seven years ago, spoofing teen abstinence, was posted on the internet."

so how is that EXECUTIVES of Sprout not having a sense of humor, give a black eye to public broadcasting?
maybe thus:
"According to people within the Public Broadcasting Service, the supposedly politically independent PBS "is being forced to toe a more conservative line in its programming" by its oversight agency, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is being stacked with right-wing appointees. Over the past few years, President Bush has attempted to flood the CPB board with partisan political operatives. The result, according to a senior FCC official, is that today CPB "is engaged in a systematic effort not just to sanitize the truth, but to impose a right-wing agenda on PBS. It's almost like a right-wing coup. It appears to be orchestrated."

so what exactly is drudge pissed about? 1st amendment? right to work? or does he just like to masterbate to nonpublic broadcasting?

so, before anyone asks, yes, most of this faux rage nonsense has occurred since the 2000 election.

so:
"CPB's board decided not to renew the contract of its chief executive, Kathleen Cox, choosing instead to replace her with Kenneth Ferree. Before becoming the chief executive of CPB, Ferree was at the FCC, where he "played a significant role in the failed effort to loosen rules" for giant media conglomerates to consolidate their empires. (It was backlash from the American public that defeated his efforts.) Now Ferree is at CPB, but not because of his love for public broadcasting. In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, Ferree admitted to not watching much PBS, not even its flagship show, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, which he called "slow." In Ferree's own words, "I don't always want to sit down and read Shakespeare, and Lehrer is akin to Shakespeare. Sometimes I really just want a People magazine."

Scheiss uber alles!

so what was drudges point?
